Donating Artifacts
What types of artifacts does BCHM accept?
BCHM accepts a broad range of artifact donations including objects, photographs, archives, letters, and local family histories.
Artifacts accepted into the collection generally meet the following basic criteria:
1. The artifact is connected to Blaine County and has a known provenance such as who owned the item, what era the item was used, where the item came from.
2. The artifact is in good and stable physical condition.
3. The artifact is unique and not already over-represented in the collection.
4. The artifact can be acquired without restrictions such as requirements for a long-term loan or permanent exhibition of the artifact.
Where will my artifact go after it is donated to BCHM?
The BCHM cannot guarantee that donated items will put on permanent display, as only a fraction of the collection is on exhibit at any one time. Regardless of whether an artifact is placed on exhibit, it is a valued piece of Blaine County history. As part of the collection, artifacts will be accessioned, preserved, and available for research to allow current and future generations to learn about Blaine County’s heritage.
