School Tours

If there is one thing we love to see at the museum, it is watching children’s eyes light up with interest as they discover fascinating stories of our Valley’s history!

The BCHM is always available for class tours from any school system in Blaine County. If you have a classroom studying a certain topic, we are happy to offer a tour with a guest speaker to share with your class on that subject. In addition to our museum staff, we frequently invite local historians to share with students on many topics, including but not limited to: mining, sheepherding, Sun Valley history, Union Pacific train transportation.

The BCHM offers class tours that support the Idaho Content Standards for social studies.

Please reference this link for a list of these tours and more information:

Traveling Trunks Program

The Blaine County Historical Museum offers a Traveling Trunk Program to teachers and educational groups for a hands-on learning experience.

What is a Traveling Trunk?

Members of the museum board have put together trunks full of historic items. The museum has multiple trunks available to educators to borrow. The trunks are full of objects and materials to give children a unique experience of tangible learning. They can be used to supplement history lessons, specifically of Idaho and Blaine County.

What is inside each trunk?

The trunks have multiple items that are kid-friendly, chosen specifically for the encouragement of teaching, conversation, and first hand experience of historic items that modern-day children may have never seen. Included in the trunks are outlines for history lessons of our area with fun facts about the different eras of Blaine County.

Is there a cost to borrow a trunk?

The Blaine County Historical Museum offers this program at no cost to our community. Our aim is to make history accessible to students in an impacting way.

Who is eligible to borrow a trunk?

Any school classroom in Blaine County, as well as homeschool groups. Boy and Girl Scout groups or other youth education programs are also welcome to borrow a trunk.

How  do I pick up a Traveling Trunk as a teacher?

A representative from BCHM is happy to deliver and pick up your Traveling Trunk.

How long can a Traveling Trunk be kept in a classroom?

We typically suggest a couple weeks, but the length can be modified based on your needs.
